Pride and Jubilation

When you watched the Platinum Jubilee Pageant, were you waiting to spot this incredible 'Jubilation' cart and the host of wonderful performers surrounding it?

If not, why not? ;) because the Bridgwater Carnival Clubs came together to create this dazzling cart which was literally the pride of Somerset. Over 200 people were involved in its creation and it captured the imagination of hundreds of thousands of people the world over! It's easy to see why, isn't it?

I was lucky enough to chat to BBC Radio Somerset's Andy Bennett, on my Jubilee Sunday show. Andy is a passionate carnival cart creator, a huge part of the Bridgwater carnival scene and helped build Jubilation.

He was there at the pageant, of course, and the emotion he felt was really moving.

Scroll down and press play, to listen to what Andy had to say on the day (and it's on BBC Sounds for the next couple of weeks too - head to 3 hours 8 mins 22 into the show).

It really does paint a picture of the pride and jubilation of this once in a lifetime occasion, and Andy describes the cart better than I ever could...

"All you need to look out for is a rocking, giant, crown, beefeater, pageant explosion!"

Go Somerset, go Andy, and go the hugely talented carnival clubs of Bridgwater. We salute you!
