It's no secret I love Somerset Art Weeks. I love exploring, driving up and down the lanes, spotting those famous yellow signs and heading to a venue with the promise of uncovering some hidden artistic gems.
I love the creativity that covers the county in a wash of watercolour, print and sculpture.
And I love the fact that whoever you are and whatever you do, there's always a warm welcome for you... especially when you go behind the scenes at artists studios in an 'Open Studios' year.
Since we first moved to Somerset I've been an avid visitor and explorer of the annual event. I've created community radio shows about Art Weeks, blogged about it, podcasted about it...
...and this year, I'm really excited to be creating and presenting a series of Open Studios arts shows on BBC Radio Somerset.
The shows will showcase this brilliant event and some of the wonderful artists taking part across the county. We’ll be getting to the heart of the art, going behind the scenes, sharing stories, encouraging conversation and having some fun along the way too, of course!
It all starts with a launch show next Friday 17th from 6-8pm and following that, you can hear hour-long Open Studios specials on BBC Radio Somerset from 6-7pm on Tuesday 21st September, Thursday 23rd, Tuesday 28th, Thursday 30th and Friday 1st October.
Join me and some fantastic guests as we celebrate the county’s creativity and I'd love to hear about your experiences of Somerset Art Weeks... whether it's your first time getting out and about to visit, or whether you've been experiencing the event for many years. Get in touch with me on the shows and share your thoughts.
Can't wait!
